Outreach and Public Engagement

 

Dr. Dana  is devoted to community outreach and public engagement.  She received the 2012 Faculty Excellence Award for Excellent Performance in Outreach and Public Engagement at Northern Kentucky University. Dr. Dana has led numerous community-based participatory action research projects in the region. She is an expert in photovoice methodology and utilizes this technique to amplify the voices of those who have been seldom heard.

Hope Photovice Project

The Hope Photovoice Project was a collaboration with Neighborhood House in Columbus, Ohio. This study explored the perceptions of hope and hopelessness from the viewpoint of at-risk adolescents.

H3 Cincy Photovoice Project

This study is a collaborative project with The City of Cincinnati Police Department and Boys Hope-Girls Hope; it explores perceptions of hope and perceptions of the police among children and adolescents participating in the H3 Cincy Program.

Barriers to High School Graduation Photovoice Project

"Barriers to High School Graduation" was a collaborative project with Dayton Independent Schools and Kenton County Schools; it explored the non-academic barriers to graduation for high-school students identified as homeless and/or at risk of failure.

What is it Like to Be Me Photvoice Project

This project was a collaboration between Boone County and Kenton County Schools.  The study examined the lived experiences of deaf and hard of hearing children and adolescents. Perceptions of teachers and interpreters working in a hearing school were also explored.

This project was a collaboration with the Sarah Center of Cincinnati. The study explored the perceptions of success and self-sustainability among women participating in an entrepreneurial skills development program.
